Wearable Technology
Head Over Heels
This project was born when I was a student at Simon Fraser University. During my time at the School of Interactive Arts + Technology, I created an innovative adjustable high heel designed to address common foot pain and discomfort associated with traditional high heels.
The heels could seamlessly transform from a 5-inch heel to a 2.5-inch height by detaching the bottom portion, which could be stored inside the remaining heel — inspired by Russian nesting dolls. The green "pocket tongue" contained sensors that vibrated after two hours of wear, encouraging wearers to adjust the heel height for increased comfort and to prevent potential health risks.
Although we filed a provisional patent for the technology, mechanical challenges ultimately prevented the project from continuing. Despite this, the idea garnered significant media attention, highlighting the potential and innovation behind the concept.
